What happens to a package when it's sent off with the correct address but wrong zip code?

The sender enter the wrong zip code but correct address and state. The delivery is through USPS w/ Signature Confirmation. Will I be receieving the package? And how long will this process take?|||USPS knows where you live weather you enter in the correct zip code or not. They will find you. Your package may be delayed a day or 2, but it will get to you for sure.

What happens if you put a bad zip code on a letter?

A friend mailed me a small package last week via USPS Priority Mail. He used my correct home address with the zip code of my workplace, which is in the next suburb over. Will it go back to him, eventually come to me, or disappear into oblivion.|||Items are sorts using the zip code, these days often automatically and sent to the local post office.

When they arrive, and the address doesn't match the ZIP code they will processed to find the correct location. This may slow the mail down a little. So perhaps a delay of a few days would be expected.|||It will find its way to you..

No problem.|||The package will not disappear. It may be delivered to you anyways./

Where do i put the Zip Code while sending international mail?

I need to send an international mail via USPS. But I have no idea where to place the zip code. The zip code box is 5+4 boxes, should i put in there or put it next to the address|||Within your address - As you do normally

Where does mail go with an incorrect zip code?

I bought a package of a website, but apparently I put in the wrong zip code (the address was in one zip code, I put the old zip code with the new address). According to the USPS tracking information, the package was delivered Saturday, January 15 at 5:54 AM (this was an error, apparently, supposedly was PM). However, the package never showed up. Will the package be sent back to the sender, or what will happen to it?|||There are alot of variables there. If there is a similar address in the other zip code it might get delivered there. If it's not a signature-required delivery (most aren't nowadays), the target address might have just kept it. if they are honest and report the misdelivery, it might eventually be returned to sender.

Report the problem to the vendor, the USPS and maybe your credit card company. Ask them for advice.|||To la la land dead letter post office. No seriously they will try and deliver it if they can not it will return to sender. Don't wait by the door it could take some time. You might also call ups and have them hold it at their facility. They can look it up with the tracking information.|||It will show up as being delivered, then you should get another status update that says forwarded due to incorrect zip code. I don't know why they scan it delivered first but they do. Then it will be returned back to the sender.|||It will go to the wrong Zip first and then be redirected once the mistake is noticed.|||It will be sent back to the sender.|||either to the address u sent or if your lucky back to post office

Does Russia have zip codes?

I wanted to send this package to my friend in Russia, she sent me the info but when I went to ship it via USPS, they then asked me if there was a zip code? I told them that was what I got. I emailed my friend but have not heard back so out of boredom at work I am asking this question lol|||Yes they do! And its super easy to find on google. Just like in USA, there is different zip codes for all cities. Just type in name "whats the zip code for (city), Russia and it will pop up. =)|||They don't call them zipcodes, they call them postal codes. Make sure you fill out the correct customs form (there are 2). The label number can act as a customs number. Also, consider added registered mail,it costs $11.50 extra but it's locked up and secured and has indemnity coverage (like insurance) of $45 and you can add more. Registered mail has a tracking number. When I mailed a package to Ukraine,I shipped it priority international flat rate small box,I filled out customs form 2976 (there is 2976 and 2976-A). I weighted each item and put the value of each item on the customs form, then I taped the box up and weighted the box and put the total wieght and value. If you don't do this,it may slow the shipping time and customs may open the package. Consider adding registered mail since packages get stolen in Russia and Ukraine.

Right address and zip code but wrong country usps?

Hi a letter was sent to me using royal mail with track and trace but it was sent to the wrong country it is not suppose to go to the ALaska USA.It was suppose to go to New Zealand.

I tracked it and it was in opa locka florida and it got processed through opa locka sort facility 3 times. Its been 10 days since the last update.

it says Your item was processed through and left our OPA LOCKA, FL 33054 facility on November 09, 2010. The item is currently in transit to the destination. Information, if available, is updated periodically throughout the day. Please check again later. do you think that they sent it to NZ.Because it didn't say undeliverable address.

Do you guys know if it is being sent to NZ|||USPS is trying their best. But they are assuming that the letter was meant for somewhere in the USA. There's not a snowball's chance in hell that they searched the entire globe and managed to find the same address in NZ. The letter has probably been 'returned to sender' or more likely has wound up in the 'dead letter' office of USPS.

----------------------

Whoever sent it to you incompletely addressed must have been high on something . . (No offense to your friend - but addressing a letter properly isn't exactly rocket science).

If I add the last 4 numbers of a zip code will my mail get delivered to someone faster?

It's like the question asks, if I add the last 4 digits of a zip code that you can look up on the USPS website will my mail get delivered to someone faster if they are on a package? Or will it take the same amount of time?|||The last four allows the item to be automatically sorted all the way to the address. In theory this will make the delivery more efficient and faster. The fact is that with the 5 digit zip code, the item gets to the same post office at the same time, and it should be delivered on the same day.

The post office likes the +4 ZIP especially for businesses that send a lot of mail, but it is not necessary for an individual.

If your word processing program will print envelopes or address labels with the bar code, that does speed up the sorting.

USPS Unable to Locate Address?

The USPS zip code lookup is unable to locate the address I have entered, even though I've double-checked on Google Maps, which has successfully identified the address, hence, it is valid. I would like to order items online to be shipped to the address in question and unless this problem is resolved, I will be unable to do so. I've emailed USPS using their online email tool and received an inquiry id, however, it has already been over 3 days and I've received no feedback from them. Also, they never asked for my email address, which makes me wonder how they will contact me with an answer in the first place.. Could anyone please let me know what can be done about this? Thanks in advance!! :)|||Just because an address exists does not mean that the address can receive mail. The address has to be on the route of USPS in order for mail to be deliverable to that address. Some areas only have access to p.o. boxes, it just depends on the address. The fastest thing that you can do is to call USPS. Waiting around for them to e-mail you back (especially when you did not leave contact information is silly). They will be able to look up the address and tell you if it's an address that they serve. Their phone number is: 1-800-275-8777 or 1-800-ASK-USPS. Their hours are Monday-Friday 8am-8:30pm Eastern; Saturday 8am-6pm Eastern and they are closed Sundays and holidays.|||Call them if you have nagging doubts. However if you receive mail they can find you. Sometime a the search system isn't quite able to work out how you word your address (like if you include "apt 23" instead of "#23" or "St 23"). Thanks|||The seller is required to ship to the address on file. Check your address in both eBay and Paypal.

Unfortunately for you, if the item was shipped to the address on file and the seller can prove that the item was delivered, Paypal will most likely side with the seller in a dispute.

At this point, the package may be rerouted to the correct ZIP Code. We will usually mark out a ZIP Code and try delivery to the town name if the two do not match.

There is nobody that you can try to call to hold the package. It is already on its way to the Processing Center and will be among hundreds of other packages to be sorted and dispatched.

If, by chance, it does get returned to the sender, they should reship to you at no charge since it was their error.

Long story short, I ordered a book but accidentally gave the wrong city. The zip code and address is correct, will it be returned to sender? Or will USPS go by the zip code?|||Zip code. You really don't even need the city on there since each city has it's own zip code. Those things are read by machines when sorted. The machines only read the zip code. Please help with link syntax to find a zip code definition on usps.com?

hi,

i need to include a link in a html page to a zip code so that when the user clicks the zip code it opens a browser and sends him to usps.com and looks up the zip code to give him the city. I have the link, but i cannot figure out the syntax to put the zip code in the link to do the lookup. Can someone please help? Here is the link:

http://zip4.usps.com/zip4/citytown_zip.jsp

thankx|||There are a few different options I could give you, but they might not be what you're looking for.

The first one is that if you just want to look up zip codes, you could create a page with google search box on it. The link is here: http://www.google.com/cse/

With the google search box, it just functions like you would be googling something on google, meaning you just enter a zip code, and that would open a new tab with the google search query giving them the location of the zip code.

The second way is almost similar but only that you would create that search on google on your own using a scripting langauge, or if not google, something like www.city-data.com/zips/90064.html

Where the zip code might be $zc = whatever users enter and the link would be www.city-data.com/zips/$zc.html

So every time the user hits the link, the $zc changes to whatever zip code the user had typed.

You might require a dynamic scripting language like PHP.

Here's quickly what you could try if you know a dynamic scripting language.

With PHP,

$zc = $_POST(zipcode);|||View the source for the page where you found that link to see what you are really clicking on that takes you to it. That's what I did once to create a perl script that would text me whenever a server had problems. My wireless carrier had a web form to send text. I used the source for that to figure the rest of it out.|||You'd have to append the following to your URI (link) above to populate the text box on the "citytown" page:

?zip5=94555

Note that "zip5" is the name of the text box which gets populated. (Yahoo annoyingly trims long strings, so here's what the full URI would look like, except you'd have to remove the spaces: http://zip4.usps.com/zip4/ citytown_zip.jsp ?zip5=94555 .)

But the user would still have to click the submit button, so if you want it to automatically show them the relevant city, you'd have to post a form to the same page being posted to from your link above. Viewing source shows this:

%26lt;form onsubmit="return validate(form1)" method="post" action="zcl_3_results.jsp" name="form1"%26gt;

Note that you'll have to use the fully qualified URI for the "action" value, i.e., "http://zip4.usps.com/zip4/ zcl_3_results.jsp" (remove space).

You'll have to also copy the %26lt;input%26gt; names they use in order to have the appropriate values be posted on form submit. Here are the %26lt;input%26gt; tags you'd need, again retrieved from viewing source:

%26lt;input type="text" name="zip5" maxlength="5" style="width: 75px;" id="zip5" value="" tabindex="1"/%26gt;

%26lt;input width="70" type="image" height="17" title="Submit" src="images/button_submit_akqa.gif" value="Find ZIP Code" tabindex="8" name="submit"/%26gt;

I removed the "onkeypress" attribute -- you'll have to do any event handling as you see fit.

Is there a tool on the USPS Site to tell the most likely route for a given package?|||No, there is no such tool. Sorry.

USPS shows item delivered to the wrong zip code?

I ordered an item off of eBay, and it's showing it was delivered today to the wrong zip code. I guess the seller wrote it down wrong. I checked if the same street name was present at that zip code, but it isn't. I'm waiting to hear back from the seller but in the mean time, what should I do? Will I receive my package?|||The seller either:

A) Made an honest mistake and wrote the wrong zip code on the package.

B) Sent the package to the wrong E-bay buyer.

or

C) Sent the package to a friend, and then will re-sell the item.

You need to allow the seller 72 hours to respond to your e-mail. If you do not hear back, file a dispute with E-bay for an unreceived item immediately. Then, if you paid with PayPal, file a dispute with PayPal as well.

Were the zip codes close? If so, it sounds like an honest mistake. If not, it sounds like you have been scammed.

How long does it take a letter to be mailed from one zip code to the next?

Thanks!|||The average transit time between any two given points in the continental US is 2-3 days.|||try www.usps.com site and it should tell you but I would say about 3 days|||You helped because you gave both zip codes--since they are both 95 area codes, and you are not mailing over a holiday, the longest it should take is 2 days....you can call your local post office and they can advise you....but good luck getting through to them, they are busy sending packages to all the troops.|||What kind of question is this? lol|||Usually 3 days but since they are so close I would say it would probably get there in two days.|||Shouldn't take too long, within state mail is usually pretty quick... usually taking no more than a week to get there... state to state mail varies by how much it weighs and what it is you sent... also the postal service *like UPS and FedEx* you selected affects it...

Why can there be one Zip Code for two areas?

The zip code for where I live, according to addresses in the area and the USPS zip code finder thing, works for two alternate names of the exact same area. I could give my address as being in either of two cities. Why is this? Is there a preferable one to use? (I like the one that I haven't been using better).|||Zip codes usually define a geographic space which towns and cities are on. Unfortunately, sometime boarder disputes between towns do not fall along zip code boundaries. Sometimes towns are absorbed by bigger cities and the old name for the city pops up from time to time.

To get an official ruling go to your local post master and which is the propper city to use. Then ask if there is any reason why you couldn't use the name you want to use.|||I guess you live in the USA.

Here in the UK we have a similar arrangement using a postal code. The UK Royal Mail has a thing called a PAF (Postal Address File) which contains the preferred address of everywhere in the country. If you use the correct address as per the file, your mail is more likely to get delivered correctly, and if you are a corporate user, you get better postal discounts.|||91306 is for Winnetka and Canoga Park California, 91331 is for Arleta and Pacoima California, and 91342 is for Lake View Terrace and Sylmar California. Finally 91401 can be viewed as Van Nuys or Valley Glen in California. So the answer is YES.|||Maybe one city's outer limit grew to include the other's without

It might be delayed by a day, but you will get your package. Despite all the snide comments people make about the USPS, they are amazing in their ability to deliver mail and packages. Seriously. If I ship a package 2 an APO address overseas by USPS can it be insured 2 the final stop or only 2 the NY zip?

We've had a couple things that arrived in a few pieces, and we were able to have them replaced because they were insured.|||insured all the way, they are responsible until it reaches the person you are sending it to. make sure you buy insurance and keep the reciept!!!!!|||Typically, the insurance you purchase covers the package, until it reaches the address printed on the package. That destination, is the only one the Postal Service is Insuring. When that package reaches it's destination, and now "Out Of" the Post Offices hands, control, etc... They can not be held responsible for a package that no longer is within their system. You might want to ask the USPS directly, but it makes sense. Why should they take responsibility on something that is literally out of their hands?

How can I get my home physical address listed in the zip-code data base I tried USPS & they won't help me?

.I tried every place I can think of. I have lived here for 30yrs. but always got my mail at a PO box now I need home delivery for packages %26amp; no one can confirm my address.|||No. USPS provides and maintains data on Delivery Points within a ZIP Code. Your Delivery Point is a PO Box.

You can have a physical address if you happen to live in an area that uses some sort of enhanced 911 system where the county has assigned names to every street and road within the county.

This will not change your Delivery Point for USPS purposes but you can use a "dual address". i.e. 123 Main St, PO Box 123. If your municipality has not assigned street names, then you are out of luck.

So many companies use delivery companies other than USPS for shipping because of bulk shipping deals they can make with the others. Those companies can not deliver to a PO Box.|||My house has been here for 50+ years. USPS doesn't deliver %26amp; we all have PO Boxes and E911.

If I use my physical address, vendors can't validate. If I use my PO Box, vendors won't ship. UPS and FedEx deliver, but its a constant mess bc most vendor systems validate against USPS DB where we aren't.

will this cause problems with me getting mail from them?

Thanks in advance.|||USPS will automatically append the +4 numbers to your ZIP Code. This actually makes it easier to get your mail to you. USPS recommends that you use the ZIP+4, if you know it, all the time.

The +4 number targets the mail to a particular segment on a Letter Carriers route for sorting into the walk sequence.

You are not required to use, but we do recommend it.

Currently the Postal Service maintaines the zipcode database for USPS mail delivery. It seems everyone uses it for their own purpose from parcel delivery, UPS %26amp; FEDX, to insurance companies to set rates. What happens when the US Postal Service is privatized?|||The ZIP code will slowly be phased out.|||In a sense they already are privatized - they are 'for profit', no other 'government' agency is.

Do I have to ship USPS Package from Same Zip Code on Label?

After printing a USPS label (my address is return address). Do I have to drop it off at the post office or mailman in the same zip code as my address? What if I miss the mailman, can I give it to a different mail man (he delivers just down the street, zip code is still the same)?|||Yes you can.

Why does my USPS express mail take 2 days to some zip codes, when the same zip code sending to me take 1 day?

In my town, at least, it has to do with the time the mail leaves the main post office, not some branch office. If it is in and ready to go before noon, 1 day. If is in and ready to go after noon, 2 days.|||Weather, traffic, it gets thrown in the wrong bin, postal employee error, many different factors. Nothing is perfect, especially the mail.

Why does the USPS zip code finder page have a square to enter a zip code?

because sometimes you want the ZIP + 4

not just the ZIP - and typing 5 numbers is easier than spelling

In other words, you can determine location from a zip code.|||Well, it's also a post office locator, which I use a lot :-) If you put only a zip, it will show you the nearest post offices for that zip code.

Should USPS Zip Code 91101 be reassigned from Pasadena, Calif. to 'Ground Zero' in NYC?

I discovered that zip code 91101 is the central post office of Pasadena, California.

I got nothing against the place, I used to live nearby before zip codes were invented. I know that 91 zip codes are for the greater Los Angeles area.

But 91101 is a unique number, a sacred zip code if you please and it should be reassigned to 'Ground Zero' in New York City where the prevailing zip codes are 01.|||first of all it is not possible to rearange ausps zip code any more then changing your phone number because its a history making number. there isNO way the post office can do that without geting all mail for california going 3000 miles out of the way. be real then ithe phone company can change your area code you would never never never get your package delivered if you changed the zip code.|||A sacred zip code? lol The 911 numbers are Pasadena. All Pasadena parents know this, because at some time, their 5 year old has dialed their zip code and ended up with the sheriffs or cops at the front door. It's a long-time tradition, cannot stop it now.

(World Trade Center zip was 10048, the USPS used it for a pictorial cancellation, so it's gotta stay.)
